GRP Tech has successfully completed the production of GRP cans for a Stack in Craiova (Romania).

The manufacturing took place directly on site using a vertical filament winding machine for the process. The structural wall of the stack was made by winding alternated layers of parallel roving, chopped strand mat and woven roving (bi-directional and/or unidirectional) saturated with resin on a steel mould. The number of the layers is defined by the calculated thicknesses based on the Project data.

Vinlyester Derakane resin combined with ECR glass were used for the construction of the Stack. The proposed resin has an HDT (Heat Distortion Temperature) greater than 20°C above the design temperature, which gives a high corrosion resistance in the internal chemical barrier as well as a very good stability on the entire wall of the Stack.

Stack insulation: polyurethane is applied on the Stack section after the mechanical structure manufacturing. The insulation layer is covered by a GRP external layer of about 3 mm made winding alternated layers of parallel roving and chopped strand mat saturated with resin. Furthermore, the top-coat resin contains paraffin to avoid air inhibition and UV screening agent.
